Nigerian Music - The ‘U’ … Ugo Onyianta – Artist – New

Much anticipated debut mixtape from Newark/East Orange New Jersey Native & Visions of Quest Member-VOQ, The ‘U’ with production from Josh Campbell, Dr. Day, & DJ CaMoflauge. Includes features by Fumi, Hadji, & DJ CaMo. A combination of new school & old school providing a breath of fresh air of creativity, ‘U’niqueness, and imagination to the music scene.
The son of Nigerian immigrants born and raised in Newark/East Orange New Jersey. Began as a Stand Up Comedian throughout and continues to do so but after meeting DJ CaMoflague & forming an alliance with lifelong friends Sidanii “S-Dot” Bell & Husani “Hudini” Hayes (Visions of Quest-VOQ) his love and fire for Hip Hop couldn’t wait any longer. Grew up watching Yo MTV Raps & Rap City with Big Tigger. Influenced heavily by a number of artists such as Notorious BIG, Nas, Naughty By Nature, Little Brother, and Fabolous but after listening to his fellow Nigerian countrymen Wale and seeing him live in concert in college, made up his mind he was going to begin his own path of greatness. Blends a unique style of wordplay with elements of Pro Sports, Movies, Pop/Mainstream Culture, and Social Issues. The ‘U’ intends on continuing the legacy of great Jersey MC’s which includes Naughty By Nature, Queen Latifah, Redman, Lauryn Hill, Joe Budden, Ice-T, Sugar Hill Gang, and many others.
This track is a remake of an underground African artist from back in the day
called Af-ru. My DJ is DJ CaMo & supplied most of my beats for mixtapes and
suggested I do one for the motherland so I decided I dedicate this one to
the land of me, my family, and ancestors. I am Nigerian, I love being African
and am very grateful to have such rich heritage. This will not be the last joint
where I put on for my homeland!
One of my personal favorites on the whole mixtape. The beat was an unreleased
9th Wonder beat i dont know where i found it I guess it found me. Huge fan of 9th
Wonder & Little Brother 3 of my heros who inspired me to rap & I pray I get to work
with them in the future. The track embodies the direction of my music and my creative drive
and the vibe you feel from it is 100% ‘U’ If you say to yourself this sounds different then
you totally get it my friend!
This is a remake of one of my favorite artists Kid Cudi. I really love his
sound and creativity and freshness hes bringing to a rather dry music
game.Im a huge fan of mixtapes most of my heroes like Wale, Lloyd Banks, Fabolous
all came from them. I have yet to see someone take on this beat. Its a very complex beat
which calls for creativity & clevorness & the fact that Kudi made it into a hit record speaks
volumes about him. I took on this song to embrace the challenge and the consensus
according to those who Ive spoke with who got the mixtape it is my best track. This lets me
know that Im heading in the right direction!
One of my biggest heroes and absolute reasons why I rap is Biggy Smalls. Any artist from my generation who isnt a Biggy fan on some level doesnt know
anything about Hip Hop. Ive only done 2 Biggy remakes this one & Unbelievable which will be on Vol 3 (shameless plug lol) out of respect for him & what he means to not just me but hip hop in general. I love this beat I loved when Junior Mafia was running Hip Hop & I love Biggy. This is the most recent version of me so if you want to get an idea where Im heading as an artist make sure you check this one out!
