Nigerian Music - MI Abaga – Album Review – Talk About It
![]()
I guess the hype made you pick the ‘Talk about it‘ album or a friend recommended it. You can call it a 5 mics album if you like but words might just under rate the ‘Talk about it’ album. This Pyeri boy whose father is an evangelist, grew up singing in the choir, he admits that he knows that he is not doing gospel music but this is his gospel and he has to preach it. M.I is a native of Taraba state and he is currently based in Lagos.
One thing that cannot be denied is the work Chocolate City team (the label he is singed on) put in getting this rap messiah going, almost every track on M.I’s album turned out to be a single on every radio station.
This album is most definitely one to talk about, word is, it moved 30,000 copies in 30 minutes. Changing the story of rap music in Nigeria. Nigerians have been so tuned to listening to the beats of music instead of the lyrics, the story is different now, tighten up your lyrics before you get into the booth is one of the lessons you will learn from this album “Talk about it”, the album is the true definition of hip hop.
The album kicks off on September 1st at Chocolate city head quarters Abuja with “An outrageous intro starring the President”. Take note, the president was notified about the Talk about it album before it dropped, the president himself gave his word that the album is going to be appreciated when it drops.
The next track he called “Anoti” shows how versatile this rapper MI can be. They call him M.I with a brand new song, brand new feeling and he can’t go wrong. “Anoti” was produced by Jesse Jags himself and he (M.I) featured Gabriel on this one.
“L Boogie’s intro” follows up as the next track on the album. You can’t skip this one because he (L Boogie) puts you on the spot to ask yourself what a good album really is and he also assures every buyer of the album that they have done the right thing by buying it.
“Short black boy “ is another killing track both for the ladies and guys, people are wondering who made Chocolate City bank account blow. Listening to this next song Short black boy will make you wonder who made the beat.
“Teaser” is one song I am sure so many people would have purchased this album for. Pype who is always murderous anytime was feature on this track. Pype himself admits that this is one of the best collaboration he had involved in so far.
The next selection is called “Talk about it” featuring Leony. Too many times people listen to the beat of the song instead of the lyrics of the song. M.I declares that he is not afraid to speak so he lets it out when he is suppose to, you cant ignore Jesse’s good work on the beat.
“Safe” featuring Djinee is the first single off the “Talk about it” album. When this song dropped on air people knew this mc was ready to take over, hear his word he is dropping because other rappers are stuttering.
“Random Guy Buying Blaze From Dodgy Guy” is one skit in this album you don’t want to skip pass, listen to this one real good, don’t get it twisted because the concept is off the Nigerian skit thingy.
The “Blaze” song has two versions, on this one he features his his brother Jesse Jags, Ice prince and off course Blaise. Jesse was silly on this track like he was making a beat, Ice Prince and Blaise was too. Take note on how the beat transforms as Blaise steps in, nice one Jesse.
One of my favorite on this album is this next track “Area” featuring Y.Q, quality rhythm, and delivery from both artists. Its M.I and Y.Q, the flow is fly you, realize it’s not the same level of IQ, what level is yours?
“Fast Money Fast Cars” happens to be the only track that wasn’t produced by Jesse Jags, this song was produced by Kraft and he featured Wizkid. The Yoruba hook from Wizkid kills this song as M.I is always on point when it comes to delivery.
“A Short Discussion on the situation of things by two Yoruba women”, this is a skit that leads you on to the next track. Who says M.I doesn’t understand the Nigerian market, what a nice way to link up with another great song.
“Money” is slow to enter, money quick to go, where does all the money go to? A question still hard for most of us to understand. You can not deny your love for this song because the message comes strong on you when you listen to it.
There is love in the air, this next song called “Forever” happens to be the only love song out of this eighteen (18) track album. This rap messiah has a soft spot too, if you already let him rock you slowly, hold you then you can dance the night away.
M.I had to give glory to God on this next song “Jehovah” where he featured Eben and Lindsey. M.I fills his life pages with the goodness of the Rock of ages; he declares that he is not a preacher but a sinner who has turned into something beautiful.
Where are the great hustlers? This next track “Hustle” inspires my hustle spirit. We just can not ignore Jesse’s hard work on this beat again, the beat itself is inspiring. Let them keep discussing and cursing us because we hustlers, this is a song for those who ain’t afraid to travel through the path of getting paid.
At this point M.I shows appreciation to all those who have been supportive on this album from inception until now. He thanks everybody from the Nigerian entertainment media, Hip hop world for giving him the award, Loopy recordz, First wave, British council, his management Obinna and Godwin, his brother Jesse Jags, every artist that featured on the album and so many others.
He sealed the album with the song “Crowd Mentality”. Another lovely song and instrumental, Jesse jags was silly on this beat. Now you have to know who you are, the moral of the song is, people are just walking around like Zombies and it’s so strange that people are afraid if they rearrange.

Please! This was not an album review, this was just praise singing. Any real critic would know that even the most acclaimed work of art has some flaws. You guys failed to point them out. The reviewer only let us know that he listened to the lyrics on each track by intermittently quoting them as part of the review. This, honestly, is rather shoddy work!

uuuuuuuuh Guys, It was not jesse Jagz that produced the crowd mentality instrumental, the whole song was produced by Dr. Tim (Timothy Gyang) who happens to be Jeremiah Gyang’s younger bro. No offence
