Nigerian Music - Kalu – Artist – New

Chidiebere Charles Kalu- born May 9, 1989 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to Kalu Agba Kalu and Nwobiara Kalu from Abriba, NIgeria. He is known and called “Chidi” by his friends. He attended local schools in Orangeburg County and also Dority International in Aba Nigeria. Kalu graduated May, 2007 from Orangeburg Wilkinson High with honors. He received several scholarships to choose from, however, he selected a full scholarship to attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland where he is currently actively serving his second year as a Midshipman 3/C.

Chidi enjoys music, sports, patriotic service, and socializing with his friends, but music became his passion. At the age of six, he developed an interest in singing as he participated as a lead singer on his church choir. Later, he broadened his interest in music by playing saxophone in his middle school band. In the beginning of his high school years, he and three of his best friends formed a local acappella group called “Fruit of the Spirit.” They performed at schools, church, and community events. In high school, he joined the school chorus and had the opportunity to travel and perform at Carnegie Hall, in New York City, Pine Forge Academy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and many local community events. In 2006, he competed amongst other high school students and was selected for South Carolina Allstate Choir Tenor Vocalist. Prior to graduating, he was the featured soloist in the Seven Last Words of Christ at First Baptist Church, in Columbia, South Carolina.

In the United States Naval Academy, he became active on the Protestant Choir, the Male Glee Club, and the USNA Gospel Choir. While performing for the USNA Gospel Choir Chidi performed for Governor of Maryland, the Pre-presidential Inauguration Concert in Washington, DC, and the Banneker-Douglass Museum of African-American Life and History. His current plans are to work diligently on his musical and vocal talent to further enhance his love for music performance arts in hope to gain a career in the music industry.
