AK48 was born Akingbenga Adewale Akintunde-Zurakat on the 18th of March 1987 in Itire, Surulere-Lagos, NIGERIA, the eldest of three children and the only male child. He graduated from Ansar Ud Deen Grammar School in May 2003 after which he briefly studied Computer Science at The Lagos City Polytechnic before departing for the United States in 2005. He currently is a Junior Nursing Student on Midwestern State University and intends to be a Medical Doctor in the field of Pediatrics, in the near future.

AK48 started rapping in 2001 in secondary school where he would engage in freestyle battles with classmates and also compose songs off-head while others beat the desks to create a rhythm. He did not really take music seriously at that time even though he had a lot of people continually tell him that he had the potential to become relevant in the music industry. He started composing songs around 2004 and did some recording which never got released.

There had been several times when he has had to take breaks from music due to several other commitments; especially keeping his family together due to the loss of his father in 2005; as well as being arrested in 2008 for a felony charge of ‘obtaining employment under false claims’ by the United States Department of State; which kept him in jail for 3 months after which the case was dismissed, he has since returned to rapping as of 2008 and is currently working on a mixtape called Ground Zero: Tha Sequel which is slated for release later this year (2009). AK48 is currently located in Dallas, Texas where he attends school and records his music, he claims he is definitely not here to save Nigerian Hip Hop which he thinks is in good hands currently, but has plans to contribute his own piece of work which definitely stands out to the industry. He is currently not signed to any record label but intends to launch an Independent Company known as: 234 RecordZ.
